So it looks like there's interest. Anyone interested in getting together to go dancing at the beginning of the quarter? We could talk about what a salsa club could look like during the merengue breaks :-)

Ola salseros and salseras! I am a UCSD graduate student who took a bunch of salsa classes at UCSD, didn't get very far, and then started taking classes at studios in San Diego. These were much better. Salsa dancing is a new passion for me, a new lifestyle. Anyone can get into it.

I have now been dancing with majestyinmotion.com for over one year. Its the biggest salsa company here in San Diego, with lots of classes to take. You can walk right in and check it out - you don't need a partner and the classes are self-contained. There are two levels, beginning and intermediate. Try out the beginning class a few times, or just once, and see how you like it. Also, if you want to get more serious, or you are in need of more then a few classes, this company has many teams that you can join. In fact, we are having auditions in January, no experience required! Check out the website. And, if you take a class, mention my name, PATRICK! (Yes, the last bit is a shameless plug - but we'll be helping each other out :))

Actually, I was interested in salsa just as a leisure activity. I'm not the kind of person who goes dancing every night and is obsessed with becoming a great dancer. Nothing wrong with this, but I think dancing should also be enjoyed by people who only do it occasionally.
And yes, there are many places for taking classes in SD. Maybe within such a club, we could exchange information about them.

It's Erin M…I don't feel like logging in right now. I'm so glad you're interested! I do know of a few other clubs. There is a Rueda(a cuban style of salsa) club on campus—they have grad, undergrad, faculty, staff, and SD residents as members. The meet on Tuesdays to give lessons and charge members $10/quarter for dues. They occassionally go out to clubs together to dance and they have an end of year party. There is also a tango club on campus, they have an open practice every tuesdays but don't offer lessons on a regular basis and I don't think they charge member dues. They put together a few events as well. I know of a ballroom dance club on campus too, they are a recreation organiation withle the other two are student organizations. The ballroom group has lessons and practice for 3 hours on fridays. They have dance team and I don' thtink thet carge any dues. I was thinking for the salsa club to be a group that focuses on going out dancing together and putting on occassional events to complement the rueda club that already offers lessons. And there are salsa lessons at RIMAC and through the dance dept so I don't think there is much of a need for lessons, just places do dance and people to dance with.

Hey,

I've been running into tons of people who are into salsa on campus. Is anyone interested getting together and starting a club. We could put on events, go on trips, get group discounts for local clubs etc. What do you think?
