Welcome to the webpage for the Cafe Vita French Meet-up! If you have any questions, contact Erin the meet-up coordinator at moc.liamg|dscuenolame#moc.liamg|dscuenolame. Also, feel free to visit the French forum to chat with other French Meet-up members.
We have regular weekly meetings every Thursday at 6pm at Cafe Vita in the UCSD One Miramar graduate housing complex. The language meet-up participants are mostly graduate students but anyone passionate about speaking French is welcome. All fluency from absolute beginner to native speakers are welcome. You can find parking in the large parking structure right next to the cafe on the third level.
Generally, you will find us at the tables right in front of the cafe. In case of inclement weather, we'll move inside or up into one of the One Miramar community rooms if inside is too crowded.
From Interstate 5 South: Exit La Jolla Village Drive. Turn left onto La Jolla Village Drive. Turn Left onto Regents Rd. Turn Left onto Miramar St into the Mesa Housing Complex. Follow the road, as you turn the curve you'll see large parking structure to your right. You can park there and Cafe Vita is right out front.
From 805 South: Exit La Jolla Village Dr/Miramar Rd. Keep to the left for La Jolla Village Dr. Merge onto La Jolla Village Dr. Drive straight until Regents Rd then turn right. Turn Lefte onto Miramar St. Follow the road, as you turn the curve you'll see large parking structure to your right. You can park there and Cafe Vita is right out front.
Campus Transportation: Take the UCSD Mesa Shuttle. It will let you off just past the cafe.
There are many opportunities for french instruction in San Diego. (And if you are a native french speaker, many opportunities to teach.) At UCSD, both the linguistics and literature program offer french courses. The linguistics department offers beginner courses, while the literature courses are at a more advanced level. These courses are either 4 or 5 days a week for an hour or one hour and 20 minutes. If you are enrolled at UCSD you can take these classes for free. You can also take one day per week classes through UCSD extension for a fee.
UCSD Linguistics Language Lab
Located in Room 3432A of the Applied Physics and Math (AP&M) building on the Muir campus, the Language Laboratory has a number of books, videos, newspapers, software, and other resources for students learning languages. (However, many of these resources cannot be removed from the lab.) Visit the webpage: http://ling.ucsd.edu/langlab/langlab.htm, or call (858) 534-2418 for more information.
There are language classes available San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. There are also no fee classes available through the San Diego Community College district. This is a good option for taking free language classes (or any classes) in the summer. You need to check the schedules because french is not always offered during the summer.
